I Love You, Man
Short description
Peter Klaven is a real estate agent who has just become engaged to Zooey, the woman he wants to marry. Planning the wedding brings up an awkward problem: Peter has no close male friend to stand beside him as best man. He sets out to fix this through a series of meetings with potential candidates, most of them uncomfortable or unsuccessful, until he meets Sydney Fife. The two hit it off immediately, but as their friendship grows, it begins to interfere with Peter's relationship with Zooey, and he is eventually forced to choose between his new friend and his fiancée. Paul Rudd plays Peter, Jason Segel plays Sydney, and Rashida Jones plays Zooey, with Andy Samberg, J.K. Simmons and Jane Curtin in supporting roles.
John Hamburg directed and co-wrote the film with Larry Levin, and produced it with Donald De Line. It was Hamburg's third feature as director, following his debut and Along Came Polly five years earlier.
Released in March 2009, the film cost about 41 million USD to make and took roughly 92 million USD worldwide. It has a 6.9/10 critics' rating across 203 reviews, while audiences rate it 6.6/10 on TMDB.
What's left behind the scenes
- Lou Ferrigno, whose estate the protagonist is trying to sell, is a bodybuilder who twice won Mr. Universe and is known for his role as the Hulk, which he has played and voiced in television series since 1978.
- The original script, titled “Let’s Be Friends,” was purchased by a film studio but remained untouched for eleven years.
- In the film, Sydney names his dog Anwar Sadat, explaining that it looks exactly like the former Egyptian president. This caused significant outrage from the daughter of the deceased Egyptian politician, who, considering it an insult to his memory, filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers.
- Members of the American rock band OK Go appear on screen at the very end of the film, during the credits, as the wedding band.
- J.K. Simmons plays the father of Paul Rudd's character in the film, even though he is only 14 years older than the actor.
