Fantastic Four follows four young people who travel to an alternate dimension and return physically transformed, gaining extraordinary abilities that upend their lives. As they struggle to control what they have become, they must also confront a former ally who has turned into a threat to Earth. The story centers on Reed Richards, a gifted scientist whose experiment enables the journey, alongside his friend Ben Grimm, Sue Storm and her brother Johnny. The four must learn to work as a team.
The film is a contemporary take on Marvel's long-running superhero group, directed by Josh Trank, whose previous feature was Chronicle, and released in 2015 between that film and Capone. Simon Kinberg and Jeremy Slater share screenplay credit, with Kinberg also producing alongside Matthew Vaughn and Robert Kulzer. Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell lead the cast, supported by Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm.
Produced on a budget of 120 million US dollars, the film returned about 168 million dollars worldwide, a modest result against its cost. Audience response was weak, with a rating of 4.3 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 192,000 votes and 4.4 out of 10 on TMDB from around 6,500 votes. A film critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from 260 reviews places professional appraisal close to the audience verdict.
