Haunted

Professor David Ash makes a living exposing people who claim to speak to the dead. When an elderly nanny named Tess Webb writes from Edbrook, an old country estate belonging to the Mariell family, asking for help with the strange things she believes she sees there, Ash expects to settle her fears quickly. The family's grown children and their doctor insist nothing unusual is happening and that Tess is imagining it all. Yet the longer Ash stays, the less certain he becomes of his own senses, especially after he grows close to Christina Mariell.

The film is adapted from James Herbert's novel, with a screenplay by Timothy Prager, Lewis Gilbert and Bob Kellett. Lewis Gilbert directed and produced it with Anthony Andrews; it was the eleventh film Gilbert directed and followed Stepping Out. Aidan Quinn plays Ash, Kate Beckinsale is Christina, and John Gielgud appears as Dr Henry Doyle. Anthony Andrews, Anna Massey and Alex Lowe round out the main cast.

Released in October 1995, Haunted runs 108 minutes and blends horror and mystery with romance and fantasy. On IMDb it holds a 6.2 rating from roughly 7,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from a much smaller pool of about 184 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 from five reviews places it slightly below both audience scores.
