Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood
Short description
Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood follows a group of friends in an African American neighborhood who live by petty theft until they come across a chest filled with gold coins. The discovery seems like a stroke of luck, and the friends begin spending freely on cars, clothes and other luxuries. What they do not realize is that the gold belongs to a leprechaun, who wants it back and punishes anyone who takes it. One by one, the friends face the vengeful creature.
The film is the sixth entry in the Leprechaun series, written and directed by Steven Ayromlooi in his feature directing debut. Warwick Davis returns as the leprechaun, joined by Tangi Miller as Emily, Laz Alonso as Rory, Page Kennedy as Jamie, Sherrie Jackson as Lisa and Donzaleigh Abernathy as Esmerelda. Mike Upton produced the Lionsgate release, which runs 90 minutes and mixes horror with comedy.
Released in December 2003, the film drew weak notices from critics, whose rating of 3.3 out of 10 comes from 10 reviews. Audiences were similarly unimpressed: on IMDb it holds 3.9 out of 10 from around 6,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.8 out of 10 from roughly 231 votes. These figures place it among the lower-regarded entries in the series, though the small critic sample and modest audience numbers indicate limited attention beyond genre fans.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, the action was supposed to take place on a tropical coast, but since filming was to begin during Spring Break, a suitable location had to be abandoned, as well as the plot idea – ultimately, the heroes were brought back to the city.
