Cold Eyes follows Ha Yoon-ju, a young recruit who joins the surveillance unit of the Korean police's special crime division. Working under veteran team leader Hwang Sang-jun, she puts her sharp eye for detail to use tracking a ruthless armed criminal organization. The unit's target is James, the organization's calculating leader, whose crew carries out bold bank robberies while staying several steps ahead of the police. The surveillance team must watch and wait before it can move.
The 2013 action thriller was directed by Cho Ui-seok, who also wrote the screenplay, and Kim Byung-seo; it was the first feature either director made, and Cho went on to make Master while Kim later directed Ashfall. Sul Kyung-gu and Han Hyo-joo play the two leads, with Jung Woo-sung as James and supporting turns from Kim Byeong-ok, Jin Kyung and Lee Jun-ho among a credited cast of 110.
The film took about 38 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 7.1 rating from roughly 9,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.5 from around 386 votes, so the smaller audience there rates it somewhat higher. It runs 119 minutes and was produced with backing from CJ Entertainment, Next Entertainment World, Union Investment Partners and the Korean Film Council, a Hong Kong and Korean co-production.
