Chennai Express

Rahul, a single man in his forties who works as a confectioner in Mumbai and still lives with his grandparents, sets out to honour his grandfather's dying wish by carrying the ashes to Rameshwaram, a holy site in the south of India. He boards the Chennai Express intending to travel there, though his plans are soon derailed when he helps a young woman from a southern village get onto the train. She comes from an unusual family, and meeting her pulls Rahul into an unexpected series of events that carries the two of them across South India.

Rohit Shetty directed the film, working from a screenplay by Robin Bhatt and Yunus Sajawal. It was produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Gauri Khan and Siddharth Roy Kapur. Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul, with Deepika Padukone as Meenamma and supporting turns from Nikitin Dheer, Manorama, Sathyaraj and Mukesh Tiwari.
