The Rebound

Sandy, a mother of two in her forties, discovers that her husband has been unfaithful and decides to leave her suburban life behind for a new start in New York City. There she meets Aram, a man in his mid-twenties who works at a coffee shop below her apartment and whose marriage ended when his French wife, interested mainly in a green card, left him. When Sandy returns to work, she hires Aram to look after her children, and the two grow close as the arrangement settles into something warmer than a simple job.

Bart Freundlich wrote and directed the film, which follows World Traveler and Catch That Kid in his filmography and was released in 2009. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Sandy and Justin Bartha plays Aram, with Art Garfunkel and Joanna Gleason as Aram's parents, Lynn Whitfield as Sandy's friend Laura, and Andrew Cherry as her young son. The production was a French and American collaboration.

The Rebound drew a critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 27 reviews, noticeably lower than its audience scores of 6.3 on IMDb from roughly 52,000 votes and 6.5 on TMDB from a much smaller sample. It is a romantic comedy about a relationship that raises eyebrows among friends and family, and about whether the two people involved are genuinely suited to each other or simply rebounding from marriages that failed.
