In the Blood

Ava and her husband Derek are on vacation in the Caribbean when Derek vanishes. After an accident during an excursion, he is taken away for medical care, but when Ava reaches the hospital no one there has any record of him, as though he had never arrived at all. The authorities offer her nothing, and she comes to believe that someone has deliberately taken him. With no one willing to help, she sets out on her own to find the men she holds responsible and force answers out of them. Gina Carano plays Ava, with Cam Gigandet as Derek and supporting turns from Luis Guzmán, Stephen Lang, Treat Williams and Ismael Cruz Córdova. John Stockwell directed from a screenplay by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston; Raymond Mansfield, Cash Warren and Shaun Redick produced.

The film was released in April 2014 and runs 108 minutes. It was made for about 10 million dollars by a group of companies including Anchor Bay Films, with production split between the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico, which supplies the island setting. It sits eighth in the run of twelve features Stockwell directed, arriving between Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden and Kid Cannabis, in a filmography that runs from Crazy/Beautiful and Blue Crush through Turistas and Cat Run. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10 from around 390 votes, a middling response for a low-budget action thriller built around its lead's physical presence.
