Wild Card

Nick Wild is a former soldier working as a bodyguard in Las Vegas, where he takes on jobs for wealthy clients and spends his spare time gambling. He dreams of leaving the city for a quieter life elsewhere, but he does not yet have the money to go. When an old friend named Holly is badly beaten, Nick steps in to help her, which brings him into conflict with Danny DeMarco, a member of a powerful crime family. What follows is a dispute that puts Nick in the path of the mob.

The film is an action crime thriller directed by Simon West, the eighth of the fourteen features he has made in chronological order, following Stolen and preceding Stratton. William Goldman wrote the screenplay, and Steve Chasman produced. Jason Statham plays Nick Wild, with Michael Angarano, Dominik Garcia, Milo Ventimiglia, Hope Davis and Max Casella among the credited cast. It was a co-production between the United States and France and had a budget of about thirty million dollars.

Released in January 2015, the film earned roughly seven million dollars worldwide, well below its cost. Audiences have rated it modestly: on IMDb it holds a score of 5.6 from more than fifty-eight thousand votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.7 from around two thousand votes.
