Diana is a princess of the Amazons, raised on Themyscira, an island hidden from the rest of the world where women rule and men have no place. Trained in combat from childhood, she has never seen the world beyond her home. That changes when an American pilot, Steve Trevor, crashes on the island's shores and tells of a vast war consuming the nations of men. Convinced that the god Ares is behind the slaughter, Diana leaves her mother and her homeland to travel with Steve into the middle of the First World War, where she finds her powers and her purpose.
Patty Jenkins directed, working from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg. It was her second feature and her first since Monster in 2003, and she later returned for a sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, in 2020. Gal Gadot plays Diana, with Chris Pine as Steve, and Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston and David Thewlis among a credited cast of 82.
Made for about 149 million dollars, the film took roughly 824 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 7.3 from some 733,000 votes, on TMDB 7.2 from around 21,000 votes, and a critics' rating of 7.7 from 477 reviews sits close to the audience scores.
