Aquaman

Arthur Curry is the son of a lighthouse keeper and the queen of Atlantis, raised on land but born with abilities that let him survive underwater and communicate with sea life. When his half-brother Orm, who rules Atlantis, seeks to unite the seven underwater kingdoms and wage war on the surface world, Arthur is drawn back into the conflict. Reluctant to claim his heritage, he sets out with Mera to prove his right to the throne and prevent a war between the ocean and the land.

James Wan directed the film, which came after Furious 7 and The Conjuring 2 in his filmography and before Malignant and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The screenplay is by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, with Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Rob Cowan producing. Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry, alongside Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.

Made for a budget of 160 million US dollars, the film earned about 1.15 billion US dollars worldwide, a strong return on its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 551,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9 out of 10 from about 15,000 votes, showing solid but not outstanding audience approval. A film critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 412 reviews places critical opinion close to the audience scores.
