Last Knights is set in a medieval realm split into rival territories, where a ruler named Bartok stands out for his belief that unity is the only way forward. Summoned to pay homage at an emperor's castle, he offends the powerful minister Geza Mott and is condemned to death. The execution is carried out by Bartok's own commander, Raiden, who is then stripped of his rank and cast out along with his men. What follows is a planned act of vengeance: Raiden and his band of dishonored warriors set out to bring down Mott, who has fortified himself behind the most heavily defended stronghold in the kingdom.
Kazuaki Kiriya directed the film, the second in his three credited features, following Casshern and preceding From the End of the World. The screenplay is by Michael Konyves and Dove Sussman, with Kiriya among the producers. Clive Owen leads as Raiden, Morgan Freeman plays Bartok, and Aksel Hennie portrays Geza Mott, with Shohreh Aghdashloo, James Babson and Giorgio Caputo also appearing among a cast of sixty-three.
The production was an international one, mounted by companies from the United States, Korea, the Czech Republic and Japan, and made for roughly 40 million dollars. Its worldwide theatrical returns, about 4 million dollars, were far below that figure. On TMDB, the film holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 based on more than a thousand votes from viewers.
