Turbo Kid is set in an alternative 1997, in a wasteland left behind by an apocalypse where water has become the most valuable resource. The Kid, an orphaned scavenger, survives by trading finds from the ruins and escaping into his obsession with old comic books. His life changes when he meets Apple, an eccentric girl who becomes his companion, and when the sadistic warlord Zeus and his gang take her. To get her back and free the wasteland from Zeus's rule, The Kid has to face his fears and become the hero he has read about, armed with little more than an ancient turbo-charged weapon.
The film is a Canadian and New Zealand production directed by François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell, who also wrote the screenplay. It was their first feature, followed by Summer of 84, Wake Up and We Are Zombies in that order. Munro Chambers plays The Kid, Laurence Leboeuf plays Apple, and Michael Ironside plays Zeus, with Aaron Jeffery, Edwin Wright and Romano Orzari among a credited cast of 45. The blend of action, adventure, comedy and science fiction runs 95 minutes.
Turbo Kid was released in August 2015. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 803 votes, a moderate score that suggests a warm but not universal response.
