Short description
In 1970s London, teenage punk Enn and his friends John and Vic spend their time at a rock club run by Boadicea, hoping to meet girls without much success. One night they follow strange music to a house where they encounter a group of unusual young women. Enn is drawn to the rebellious Zan, and the pair begin a romance that forces them to bridge a gap far wider than any ordinary cultural divide. The film blends punk music, comedy and science fiction.
John Cameron Mitchell directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Neil Gaiman and Philippa Goslett; it is his fourth feature, following Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus and Rabbit Hole, and he also produced alongside Howard Gertler and Emile Sherman. Elle Fanning plays Zan, Alex Sharp plays Enn, and Nicole Kidman appears as Boadicea, with Matt Lucas, Ruth Wilson and Abraham Lewis among a credited cast of 36.
On IMDb the film holds a critics' rating of 5.3/10 from 98 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 6/10 from 438 votes, a modest split between professional and audience response. The production was handled by Film4 Productions, HanWay Films, See-Saw Films and Fortissimo Films, and runs 103 minutes.
