Beyond the Black Rainbow

Set in a futuristic version of 1983, Beyond the Black Rainbow follows a young woman with psychic abilities who is held inside the Arboria Institute, a remote experimental facility. There she is kept under the control of Dr. Barry Nyle, a researcher whose grip on his own mind appears to be slipping as his interest in her grows. Much of the story concerns her confinement and her attempts to break free of the institute's maze-like interior, while the doctor works to keep her from leaving. The cast includes Michael J Rogers as Barry Nyle, Eva Bourne as Elena, and Scott Hylands as Mercurio Arboria.

The film is the feature debut of Canadian director Panos Cosmatos, who also wrote the screenplay and would go on to direct Mandy in 2018. It was produced by Oliver Linsley and Christya Nordstokke for Chromewood Productions on a budget of about one million dollars.

Reception was mixed. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from around 18,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 5.7 out of 10 from roughly 424 votes. A critics' score of 6.2 out of 10 from 36 reviews places it slightly above the audience ratings.
