Greyhound

Greyhound follows Ernest Krause, a US Navy officer who takes command of the destroyer Greyhound during the Second World War. His assignment is to escort an international convoy of 37 ships carrying troops and supplies across the Atlantic, where German U-boats lie in wait. For several days the convoy has no air cover, leaving Krause and his crew to hold the ships together against sustained underwater attack. Krause is new to combat command, and the crossing tests both his authority and his judgment.

The film is directed by Aaron Schneider, whose only earlier feature was Get Low in 2010. Tom Hanks wrote the screenplay and stars as Commander Krause, with Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, Josh Wiggins, Tom Brittney and Elisabeth Shue among the principal cast. Gary Goetzman produced. It was a Canadian, Chinese and American co-production mounted on a budget of about 50 million US dollars. On IMDb the film holds 7 out of 10 from roughly 132,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 out of 10 from around 3,500 votes. A critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 238 reviews places it below the audience scores. At 92 minutes, the film stays close to the bridge and the plotting table, keeping its attention on the mechanics of the convoy's defence.
