Short description

Stephanie Plum, a divorced woman in her thirties living in Trenton, New Jersey, loses her job as a lingerie buyer and, short on money, turns to her cousin Vinnie, who runs a bail bond business. He gives her work as a bounty hunter, and her first case is to bring in Joe Morelli, a local police officer wanted for murder. Morelli is also the man she fell for in high school, which complicates the assignment. With help from friends and an experienced colleague named Ranger, she tries to learn the trade while pursuing him.

The film is an adaptation of Janet Evanovich's novel and stars Katherine Heigl as Stephanie, with Jason O'Mara as Morelli, Daniel Sunjata as Ranger, John Leguizamo, Sherri Shepherd and Debbie Reynolds. Julie Anne Robinson directed it, following her earlier feature The Last Song. It was produced by Wendy Finerman, Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, from a screenplay by Liz Brixius, Stacy Sherman and Karen Ray.

Released in January 2012, the film cost about 40 million dollars to make and took in roughly 37 million worldwide, so it did not recover its budget at the box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 from around 45,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 from about a thousand votes. A critics' rating of 3.2 from 53 reviews places it well below the audience scores.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Katherine Heigl filmed wearing a wig. She wanted her hairstyle to remain consistent, which would have been difficult with her natural hair.
  • The film is based on Janet Evanovich’s novel “One for the Money” (1994).
