Set in Paris during the early 1960s, this comedy follows Jean-Louis Joubert, a wealthy and rigid stockbroker who lives a dull life with his class-conscious wife and two sons. His routine is disrupted when he meets Maria, a spirited new maid in his household. She introduces him to a group of lively Spanish servants living on the sixth floor of his luxury building. Through his friendship with Maria and the other women, Jean-Louis discovers a more emotional and exuberant way of living that contrasts sharply with his own bourgeois environment, leading him to change his perspective on life.
The film was directed by Philippe Le Guay, marking the first of three listed works in his career, and was co-written by Le Guay and Jérôme Tonnerre. The cast features Fabrice Luchini as Jean-Louis Joubert, Sandrine Kiberlain as Suzanne Joubert, and Natalia Verbeke as Maria, with supporting roles played by Carmen Maura, Lola Dueñas, and Berta Ojea.
Audience reception was generally positive, with a 7.1 rating on IMDb based on 11,000 votes and a 6.8 rating on TMDB from 421 votes. These scores are slightly higher than the film critics' rating of 6/10, which was derived from 66 reviews.
