Chalet Girl

Chalet Girl follows Kim Matthews, a former skateboarding champion scraping by in a fast-food job while supporting her father. When she takes a winter position as a chalet girl at a luxury ski resort in the Alps, she is thrown into a world of wealth and champagne that feels entirely foreign to her. There she discovers a talent for snowboarding and, encouraged by the eccentric Finnish boarder Mikki, begins training for a slopestyle competition with a substantial cash prize. Her situation grows more complicated when she falls for Jonny Madsen, the son of the family she works for, who is already attached to someone else. Kim must decide whether she can compete at the highest level while navigating her feelings for him.

Phil Traill directed the film, his second feature after All About Steve two years earlier. Tom Williams wrote the screenplay, and Pippa Cross, Dietmar Güntsche and Harriet Rees produced. Felicity Jones leads as Kim, with Ed Westwick as Jonny, Brooke Shields and Bill Nighy as his parents, plus Tamsin Egerton and Bill Bailey. Made for around 8 million USD, it returned roughly 5 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3/10 from 28,000 votes; on TMDB it sits at 6.4/10 from 673 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8/10 from 43 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
