Short description
Anton is a 17-year-old slacker in the town of Bolan who spends his days smoking, watching television and pining after Molly, the girl next door. On the morning after Halloween he discovers his parents dead, and before long he learns that a series of violent killings in the area are connected to him. His right hand has taken on a will of its own, acting against his wishes. With his friends Mick and Pnub, Anton tries to make sense of what is happening to him.
Rodman Flender directed the film, his second feature after Leprechaun 2, from a screenplay by Terri Hughes and Ron Milbauer. Devon Sawa plays Anton, with Seth Green as Mick, Elden Henson as Pnub, Jessica Alba as Molly and Vivica A. Fox as Debi. A comedy, fantasy, horror and romance picture running 92 minutes, it was made for around 25 million USD and took roughly 4 million USD worldwide.
On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from about 50,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from around 780 votes. A critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 57 reviews places it below the audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- Jack Nowell, who played Randy, and Cathy Wright, who played Tanya, did not know they were related (through one of their biological parents) until they met on set.
- The punk rock band The Offspring is performing on stage in the gymnasium.
- Thomas DeLonge, founder and guitarist of the punk rock band Blink-182, played an employee at a drive-in wearing a hat with the inscription "Alright!"
- In one scene of the film, Anton, played by Devon Sawa, injects real dish soap into his mouth. The actor came up with this detail directly on the set.
- When Anton kills two police officers, Pnab shouts: "Buffalo, forward!" This is a reference to a scene that did not make it into the final cut of the film, in which Anton describes the police officers as "the head and rear of the Buffalo school mascot" (in a life-sized costume).
- When Anton, stunned by the murder of his friends, bumps into a support beam in the house, the audience clearly hears the sound of the impact. This sound was not subsequently added to the scene. The actor actually hit the beam hard.
- In the scene where Anton is vomiting in the bushes when Pnub and Mick appear, Molly, played by Jessica Alba, can be seen in the background. She is playing the bass guitar while standing on a balcony. This is the final shot of a scene that was cut during final editing.
- The trailer includes a scene of Mick and Pnub in football gear climbing a staircase to heaven. This is an alternative ending to the film, which can be seen in the DVD release.
- Filming took place in the same locations where John Carpenter filmed "Halloween" (1978).
- The same hand appears in Barry Sonnenfeld's black comedy "The Addams Family" (1991). We are talking about the so-called Thing, played by Christopher Hart.
- Some scenes from the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997-2003) and the black comedy "Queen of the Damned" (Darren Stein, 1999) were filmed in the school gymnasium where the Halloween dance takes place.
- Anton's dog named Duke (a Rhodesian Ridgeback) played a talking dog in Todd Phillips' comedy "Road Trip" (2000).
- Anton is watching George A. Romero's horror film "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) on television.
