Short description
Doug Glatt comes from a family of overachievers and has little to show for himself, working as a bouncer in a small-town bar. When he steps into a fight at a hockey game to help his friend Pat, a coach notices how hard he can hit and offers him a job as the enforcer for a struggling minor league team. Doug can barely skate, but his willingness to drop the gloves makes him valuable to a club that needs someone to protect its star scorer, Xavier Laflamme. As Doug becomes a favorite with his teammates and the crowd, the league's most feared fighter, Ross Rhea, takes an interest in him, setting up a confrontation between the two.
The film was directed by Michael Dowse and written by Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, with Baruchel also producing and appearing as Pat. It followed Dowse's Take Me Home Tonight and came before What If in his filmography. Seann William Scott leads the cast as Doug, alongside Marc-André Grondin, Alison Pill, Liev Schreiber and Eugene Levy. It is loosely based on the book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey.
Released in January 2012, the film earned about 7 million dollars worldwide against a budget of roughly 12 million. Audiences rate it 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb and 6.4 out of 10 on TMDB, while film critics gave it 6.6 out of 10.

- The actor Ricky Mabey, who played John Stevenson, trained under the guidance of a professional hockey player. He actually filmed an episode in which a body check was used against his character and even sustained an injury.
