Short description
Taken 2 continues the story of Bryan Mills, a former CIA operative who has retired from active service. While on a family trip to Istanbul, Mills and his wife Lenore are abducted by associates of a man he killed while rescuing his daughter Kim in Paris. The captors are seeking revenge, and it falls to Kim, using the skills her father taught her, to locate and free her parents. Directed by Olivier Megaton, the film follows his earlier work on Transporter 3 and Colombiana, and precedes Taken 3 in the chronological list of his features. Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen wrote the screenplay, with Besson also producing. Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, joined by Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, Leland Orser, D.B. Sweeney and Jon Gries in supporting roles. The production, spanning the United States, Turkey and France, cost 45 million dollars and took roughly 376 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.4 from more than 7,200 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 4.3 from 171 reviews, a gap that suggests audiences responded more warmly than reviewers.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was mainly shot in Istanbul, Turkey, and the filming was accompanied by some problems and difficulties. For example, during the shooting of a chase scene, a car crashed into the wall of a building, causing serious damage to the store located inside. Negotiations had to be held with the store owner to compensate for the damage, and filming continued only after the negotiations were completed.
- When Brian and Kim are riding on the ferry, Brian's hand is sometimes on her shoulder, then abruptly returns to its original position.
- When the filming of a sequel to Pierre Morel's 2007 film was first announced, no one knew whether Liam Neeson would return to play the role of Brian Mills. If he had refused, the role would have been offered to Mickey Rourke, but Neeson agreed immediately.
- The film portrays Istanbul as a very underdeveloped city, whereas in reality it is considered one of the largest and most important cities in Europe. Furthermore, almost all the female characters wear a headscarf, when in reality it is a personal choice for each individual, and almost all women in Istanbul do not wear one.
- The US Embassy in Turkey is located in Ankara. There is only a US Consulate in Istanbul.
- The security of the US Consulate in Istanbul is provided by local security, not the US military. In addition, there are always barriers or concrete structures that would prevent a vehicle from crashing into the checkpoint as depicted in the film.
- Filming of the movie took place from October 2011 to January 2012.
- When Brian asks Kim to draw circles on the map, the numbers he states are radii, not diameters. If she had drawn the circles as he described, they would have been much smaller in diameter than intended.
- During the car chase scene, the rear window of the taxi is shot out. In several frames afterwards, the window is sometimes intact and then broken again.
- Despite the taxi crashing into cars, walls, etc., it remains in almost perfect condition throughout the entire chase scene.
