Oldboy

Joe Doucett, an advertising executive, is abducted and held in solitary confinement in a private room for twenty years, with no explanation given for his captivity. From a television inside the cell he learns that his wife has been murdered and that he is himself a suspect in her death. Then, just as abruptly as he was taken, he is set free, and he begins searching for whoever arranged his imprisonment, only to find that his unknown adversary is still setting puzzles for him. His pursuit of answers brings him into contact with a young social worker, Marie Sebastian.

Josh Brolin plays Joe, with Elizabeth Olsen as Marie, Sharlto Copley as Adrian Pryce, Samuel L. Jackson as Chaney, Michael Imperioli as Chucky and Pom Klementieff as Haeng-Bok. Spike Lee directed from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich, producing alongside Doug Davison and Roy Lee. The film is the twentieth of twenty-six features Lee has directed, following the 2012 documentary Bad 25 and preceding Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth; it is a remake of a South Korean film.

Made for a reported 30 million dollars, the film returned about 5 million dollars worldwide at the box office. Audiences have been divided on it: on IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from roughly 85,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 out of 10 from around 2,200 votes, while a critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 150 reviews places it below both audience scores.
