Aleksei, a Belarusian, travels through Europe and joins the French Foreign Legion in the hope of building a new life and gaining a passport. In the Niger Delta, Jomo, a young Nigerian, takes up arms against the oil companies whose operations threaten his village's survival. When a Legion unit is sent into the delta, the paths of the two men cross, and their fates become bound together.
Disco Boy is the first feature directed by Giacomo Abbruzzese, who also wrote the screenplay, with André Logie, Arno Moria and Maria Blicharska producing. Franz Rogowski plays Aleksei, Morr Ndiaye plays Jomo, and Laëtitia Ky appears as Udoka, Jomo's sister, alongside Leon Lučev, Matteo Olivetti and Robert Więckiewicz. The film runs 92 minutes and was made for a budget of about 4 million US dollars, a modest figure reflecting its independent, co-produced origins across Belgium, Italy, Poland, the United States and France.
Released in March 2023, the film has drawn a 6.3 rating on IMDb from roughly 1,900 votes and a 6.5 on TMDB from around 84 votes, indicating a small but reasonably positive response from viewers. The cast and crew listings credit 28 performers and 46 crew members.
