The Wedding Singer

Robbie Hart performs at weddings with his band, and he is good enough at it that he has become a fixture of the local reception circuit. He is engaged to be married himself, and so is Julia Sullivan, a waitress working the same functions. Robbie is left at the altar, while Julia's plans with her fiancé Glenn, a wealthy and arrogant businessman, continue. The two keep crossing paths, and Robbie's growing feelings for Julia turn a professional acquaintance into a tangle of timing, other commitments and second thoughts.

Frank Coraci directed the film, working from a screenplay by Tim Herlihy. It was Coraci's first feature as director, ahead of The Waterboy later the same year, and it began a long run of comedies he made with Adam Sandler. Sandler plays Robbie, with Drew Barrymore as Julia, Christine Taylor as Julia's cousin Holly, Allen Covert as bandmate Sammy, Matthew Glave as Glenn and Ellen Albertini Dow as Rosie.

Released in February 1998, the film cost about 18 million dollars and took roughly 123 million dollars worldwide, a strong return. On IMDb it holds 6.9 from around 173,000 votes and on TMDB 6.8 from a much smaller base of about 2,000. A critics' rating of 6.4 from 69 reviews places professional opinion close to, though slightly below, the audience scores.
