Can't Hardly Wait

Can't Hardly Wait is a teen comedy set on graduation night at Huntington Hills High, where the seniors gather for one last party before going their separate ways. Preston Meyers has spent four years quietly carrying a torch for Amanda Beckett, the most popular girl in school, and with his departure from town looming in the morning, the party becomes his one chance to finally tell her how he feels. Around him, classmates pursue their own goals for the evening: Amanda has just split from her jock boyfriend Mike, a self-styled rapper named Kenny is determined to lose his virginity, and the resentful William plots payback against Mike before his plans go sideways.

The film is the directorial debut of Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, who also wrote the screenplay. The two went on to direct Josie and the Pussycats in 2001. The cast is led by Jennifer Love Hewitt as Amanda and Ethan Embry as Preston, alongside Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli and Seth Green, with 63 credited performers in all. Betty Thomas and Jenno Topping produced, and Columbia Pictures released the film, which runs 100 minutes.

Made for about 10 million dollars, it took in roughly 26 million worldwide, a solid return for a modestly budgeted teen comedy. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 57,000 votes; on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from about 600 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 from 65 reviews places it below both audience scores.
