The Return of Swamp Thing

The Return of Swamp Thing continues the story of Alec Holland, a scientist transformed into a plant-based creature living in the marshes. Dr. Anton Arcane is conducting experiments in a new laboratory, using genetic research to create mutated beings, and he sets his sights on Abby Arcane, who comes to him seeking answers about her mother's death. The Swamp Thing intervenes and takes her into the swamp, where the two grow close, while Arcane pursues them with an arsenal of weapons.

Jim Wynorski directed the film, the third of the twenty-two features he has made in chronological order, following Deathstalker II: Duel of the Titans and preceding Hard to Die. Neil Cuthbert and Grant Morris wrote the screenplay, and Michael Uslan and Benjamin Melniker produced. Louis Jourdan returns as Arcane, with Heather Locklear as Abby, Dick Durock as the Swamp Thing, and Sarah Douglas, Joey Sagal and Ace Mask in supporting roles. The film runs 84 minutes and was made for about 4 million dollars.

Released in 1989, the film received a critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from nine reviews, and holds a 4.7 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 6,900 votes and a 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from 266 votes. The audience scores sit slightly above the critics' rating, though all remain low.
