Four couples from the Midwest travel together to a luxury resort on a tropical island, lured by the promise of white sand, turquoise water and a group rate. One of the couples is there to work on a struggling marriage, while the other three expect little more than sunbathing, jet skiing and spa treatments. They discover that the resort's couples therapy programme is not optional, and their bargain holiday turns into an examination of the problems each relationship carries.
Peter Billingsley directed the film, his first time in that role, from a screenplay by Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau and Dana Fox; Vaughn and Scott Stuber produced. Vaughn, Favreau, Jason Bateman and Faizon Love play four of the husbands, with Kristin Davis and Malin Åkerman among the wives. The production carried a budget of 70 million dollars and took about 172 million dollars worldwide, a return that outweighed its modest standing with viewers. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 121,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 from around 2,100, while a critics' score of 3.9 from 161 reviews places the film well below its audiences' middling verdict.
