Before I Go to Sleep

Christine, a writer, wakes each morning with no memory of the day before or of the years that preceded it, the result of an accident in her past. Her husband Ben is there to explain her life to her again and again, while a doctor encourages her to keep a video diary so that she can hold on to what she learns. As she pieces her history together from photographs, recordings and conversations, details that do not fit begin to surface, and she starts to doubt the people closest to her and her own account of who she is.

The film is a British, American, French and Swedish production directed by Rowan Joffe, who also wrote the screenplay. It was his second feature as director, following Brighton Rock in 2010, and it was produced by Avi Lerner, Mark Gill and Liza Marshall. Nicole Kidman plays Christine, with Colin Firth as Ben and Mark Strong as Dr. Nasch; Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Crompton and Adam Levy appear in supporting roles.

Made for about 22 million dollars, the film took roughly 18 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from more than 83,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5 out of 10 from over 2,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 119 reviews places it below the audience scores.
