Following a long-standing tradition, a thirteen-year-old witch named Kiki leaves her family and home to spend a year training her magical abilities in a distant seaside town. Accompanied by her cat Jiji, she arrives in a new city where she attempts to establish a delivery business using her broomstick. While she strives to use her powers to help others, Kiki faces challenges as she deals with the difficulties of being different and the mistrust of the local residents.
This fantasy adventure comedy was directed by Takashi Shimizu, marking the 10th film of 20 in his career, following The Shock Labyrinth and preceding Flight 7500. The screenplay was written by Shimizu and Satoko Okudera, with Haruo Umekawa serving as producer. The film features Fuka Koshiba in the lead role as Kiki, alongside Ryohei Hirota, Machiko Ono, Hiroshi Yamamoto, Yoh Yoshida, and Hirofumi Arai, as part of a credited cast of 31 people.
