Kathleen Conklin is a philosophy graduate student in New York who is attacked on the street by a woman and bitten on the neck. The wound stays painful, daylight becomes unbearable, and a hunger she cannot control sets in. Her mind sharpens even as her body changes, and she finds herself drawn to a man who shares her condition. The film follows her attempt to hold on to the ideas she has studied while the craving for blood pushes her toward violence, including against the people closest to her.
Abel Ferrara directed The Addiction, the eighth of the seventeen features listed for him, arriving between Dangerous Game and The Funeral. Nicholas St. John wrote the screenplay, and the small credited cast is led by Lili Taylor as Kathleen, with Christopher Walken, Annabella Sciorra, Edie Falco, Paul Calderon and Fredro Starr. It runs 82 minutes and was released in October 1995.
On TMDB the film holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 323 votes, a moderate score with a modest number of votes.
